Now we are going to show you how to access and modify your website’s settings. Begin by logging in to your dashboard at domain.com/wp-admin. In the column on the left-hand side you will see a menu called "Settings." Expand this column.

Under Settings you can now see links for General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Media, Privacy, and Permalinks. These represent the different kinds of settings you can control.

Under general settings you can change things such as your website’s title and tagline, your URL, email address, timezone, and so on. When you are finished making your changes, be sure to click on the "save changes" button at the bottom of the screen.

On the writing settings page you can control things such as the formatting of your emoticons, posting via email, and remote publishing.

The reading settings is where you can control settings such as how many blog posts will show on a page, which blog posts will be displayed on the front page of you site, and so on.

Under the discussions settings you can do things such as set your default article settings, comment settings, and avatar settings. You can also control comment moderation here. For example, under "comment blacklist," you can record any words, URLs, or IP addresses that you want to mark as spam. Any comments that contain these words or items will automatically be sent to the spam folder of your comments section.

Next is your media settings menu. This is where you can control the settings for things such as the size of images in your posts and determine where to store images that you upload.

Under privacy settings you can control whether or not you want your site to be visible to search engines and archivers, as well as normal visitors.

Your final option under settings is permalinks. While it is alright to use the default settings here, your best option is to select "customer structure" under "common settings" and in the box provided type in "/%postname%/" Then click on the "save changes" button at the bottom of the page.

Now that you have a better understanding of how your settings menu works, you can better customize your website to meet your needs! Play around with your settings a little until you discover the perfect formula for your website.
